CMD - Cranio Mandibular Dysfunction
Cranio-mandibular dysfunction (CMD) is defined as impaired function in the interaction of the upper and lower jaw due to a misalignment of the lower jaw (mandible) in relation to the head (cranium).
Put simply, the upper jaw is not physiologically aligned with the lower jaw, which leads to corresponding dysfunctions (malfunctions) of the muscles and temporomandibular joints.
These malfunctions can trigger tooth, jaw and facial pain. In a narrower sense, this is pain in the masticatory muscles (myofascial pain). As the muscles of the masticatory system are connected to the spinal muscles via functional chains, CMD symptoms often extend beyond the head area. Therefore, neck/shoulder tension, blockages of the cervical spine, pelvic misalignment, dizziness and nausea can occur. Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) can be used to counteract the underlying dysfunctions and tension, so that long-term improvement is possible.
