EMS (electrical muscle stimulation)
EMS is an internationally recognized and tested treatment method for muscle pain and for triggering muscle contractions. It is a therapeutic procedure that opens up a wide range of treatment options, particularly in rehabilitation and sports medicine.
Muscle stimulation is an effective physical therapy which, in addition to maintaining and building up muscles, tendon and joint structures, has a very positive influence on movement coordination and the supply of the skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscles, tendons and joints. It is also used sensibly in combination with other physical and rehabilitative measures.
If you want to train your muscles, you can do so with the help of a muscle stimulator. Electrodes attached to the skin send electrical impulses to the desired muscles. If the current intensity is high enough, the stimulated muscle begins to work even without voluntary tension.
Depending on the duration, strength and frequency of the stimulation, the muscles gain in shape and resilience. Tendons and joints become more efficient due to improved blood circulation, skin and subcutaneous tissue become firmer and fat can be reduced. Electrical muscle stimulation can prevent the muscle from losing too much strength and mass, especially during periods of muscular immobilization due to injury, illness, surgery or restricted movement due to severe pain.
EMS is seen as a useful complement to other therapy methods (e.g. physiotherapy). Low-frequency electrical stimulation makes a significant contribution to complex physical therapy.
The EMS device sends pleasant impulses through the skin, which stimulate the nerves in the area to be treated. When the muscle receives this impulse, it contracts as if it were controlled by the brain. As the impulse intensifies, the muscles move as if during physical exertion. When the impulse ends, the muscles relax and the cycle begins again (stimulation, contraction and relaxation).
